Our Talents

Riwo Egor

Riwo is a Nigerian-born singer/songwriter, who specializes in vocal composition and arranging. As the lead vocalist of Melafrique, an Edmonton-based, Afro-fusion band, she has gained recognition throughout the province. Since moving to Canada in 2015, Riwo has collaborated with Titilope Sonuga, Callie Day, Arlo Maverick, K-riz, Martin Kerr, The Melisizwe Brothers, Josh Sahunta, Mallory Chipman and more. With a passion for sharing her own stories, she delves into neo-soul, R&B, and Afro-jazz genres, curating her own distinct voice with each record released. Using music as the catalyst for new healing journeys, Riwo facilitates an atmosphere of connectivity, life, and a sense of homecoming for her audience. Her highly anticipated debut album, “Grown Child”, was released in January 2024 and can be found on all streaming platforms.

The Tagas Tunes

Megan (16) and Shawn (14) Taja, known as The Tajas’ Tunes, are a sibling duo whose music blends cultural heritage with youthful passion. Born in Beijing to Cameroonian parents and now based in Canada, they began their musical journey in Edmonton through formal training. Megan, a pianist and dedicated violinist, plays with the Edmonton Youth Orchestra and won the Ellaine Dunbar Scholarship for Piano in 2022. Shawn, who started music at age five, now focuses on flute and saxophone, showcasing resilience and self-motivation in his growth as a musician. Together, they perform at churches, weddings, senior homes, and cultural events, often sharing their gift during Black History Month, Remembrance Day, and Christmas. Shane Mederic Chartrand

Shane Chartrand, of the Enoch Cree Nation, is a celebrated chef, author, and Indigenous keynote speaker recognized as a leader in Indigenous cuisine. A NAIT-trained Red Seal chef with an Honorary Degree and Award of Excellence, he has helmed restaurants including his own SC Restaurant and competed on Top Chef Canada, Iron Chef Canada, and Chopped Canada. His award-winning cookbook, tawâw: Progressive Indigenous Cuisine, and international keynote talks have established him as a global voice for Indigenous food and culture.
